Bottled from a single cask exclusively for Copperworks Kenmore, this release comes from something we refer to as a "Queen’s Run", which produces the most flavorful whiskey a distillery can produce. We've borrowed this term from the rum industry to describe one of our types of distillation. In our distillation process, we make cuts to separate the heads and tails from the hearts of the run. The hearts are what is matured in casks to create our American Single Malt Whiskey, while the heads and tails must be redistilled, generally with the low wines from the next brew. Every so often, we have enough heads and tails to do a re-distillation that is entirely heads and tails, or the "Queen’s Run.” The whiskey from this cask was redistilled from the heads and tails of our Five Malt recipe and single varietal genie malt. It was then matured in a refilled American Single Malt Whiskey cask for 7 years & 8 months and bottled at its cask strength of 66.3% ABV.
Tasting Notes:
The nose opens with lemon-frosted pound cake, roasted pineapple, and strawberry preserves, supported by tropical undertones of tepache, cantaloupe rind, and banana leaf. A medley of Starburst-like fruitiness mingles with demerara sugar, apricot, and hints of hay bale, grounded by subtle florals like cherry blossom and honeysuckle. The palate follows with bright notes of pineapple tart, underripe melon, and maraschino cherry, layered over toasted barley and salted browned butter. Biscoff cookie, orange blossom, bergamot, and clove add complexity, alongside a touch of strawberry ice cream and cinnamon stick. The finish lingers with tropical fruit, dried orange, apricot skin, lemon meringue, and toasted marshmallow, ending on notes of toffee, coffee candy, and dark chocolate.
