If you like rich smoky whiskeys, this one’s for you: Copperworks Double Peated Whiskey. A single cask release, Release 036 was crafted with an inspired blend of new and old-world malt whiskey production techniques, resulting in a whiskey that is far smokier than any of our previous releases.

Peat From Two Sources
Copperworks Double Peated Whiskey gets its peat flavor from two sources: the barley and a cask. A few years ago, we received a cask from one of our partners in the UK that was especially rich in peat flavor after aging Ardbeg Whisky in Scotland. It was the perfect opportunity to try our “double peat” concept.

We started with our Washington Peated Single Malt Whiskey, made from locally grown barley malted with peat from a bog in Washington State. (Learn more about our Washington Peated Single Malt in this blog post). That whiskey had matured for 45 months in new American Oak and we finished it for an additional seven months in the Ardbeg cask.

The Copperworks Washington Peated Whiskey brings savory and earthy notes to the release and the Ardbeg cask layers on a more traditional Islay Scotch smokiness. The sweetness from the new American Oak cask balances the heavy smoke from the Ardbeg cask.

Copperworks Double Peated Whiskey has a much higher level of smoke flavors than our Washington Peated Whiskey (Release 034). We recommend you try them side by side by adding a bottle of Release 034 to your order.

Tasting Notes
Driftwood campfire, leather, and creosote dominate the aromas. A sweet, Demerara sugar entry leads to tastes of candied orange peel and seaweed. The finish is minty, ashy, earthy, and briny, while still sweet and silky.

750ml, 49% ABV. Limited single cask release of 386 bottles.
